Bar Hill News - Sep 2021 (Issue 627)

Another bumper issue this month. 44 pages!

A short update on the Bar Hill Community Association (the new charity to support the village). We have now completed the setup of the charity and registered it with the Charity Commission (1195382). We have a few more steps to go, like getting a bank account, but we should be able to bring you a lot more information next month.

This has been mentioned in many places but the announcement from the Community Hub is very important - they need to understand what people want to do with their donations given at the start of the pandemic. Please get in touch with Kevin (see Page 30) to let him know.

A special thank you to Pauline Dempsey for her article on the Raptor Foundation this month, and to Liz Dam for her excellent wildlife articles - if there is someone local or some group you’d like us to mention we’d always welcome the article!

Unfortunately this month illness (not “pingdemic!”) of one form or another has led to us not being able to bring you several things we had planned - fingers crossed for another bumper issue next month and good health to deliver it!

Bar Hill News - Aug 2021 (Issue 626)

Here's the latest edition of the Bar Hill News;

https://bit.ly/bhn202108 and the direct link to the PDF of this issue is available here; https://bit.ly/bhn202108pdf

And here's this months editorial column;

"What a busy month! So many things going on in the village, it’s good to see all the groups that have been dormant during lockdown opening back up.

This month we also have exciting news about the Community Hub which will open in September.

Our own Charity Submission (Bar Hill Community Association) has now been submitted to the Charity Commission and we look forward to hearing their views over the next few weeks.

It was good to see people during the Litter Picking event, despite the interruption caused by the events on the village green. A brief review of the event is on Page 44.

Last month’s letter in relation to the air displays over the village has elicited quite a response! See the Letter on Page 4.

And this months’ Community Focus covers both Fur the Love of Dogs and the Olive Tree Bereavement Group (who submitted their own article to us). Please keep them coming, we love reading about all the local groups!

The Parish Council has provided an update on how people would prefer the money from the A14 project to be spent. See Page 46.

And finally, we have the report from the AGM of the Bar Hill Residents Association which was held last week. It is likely that a pot of money will be allocated for grants village organisations - watch this space! See Page 13."

Bar Hill News - July 2021 (Issue 625)

July's Bar Hill News is being delivered as we speak across the village and is available for digital download here [PDF].

Here
is the editorial for this issue;

"This month has been a busy month in Bar Hill as more and more groups have re-opened. The failure to end the restrictions in June has made things a lot harder, but (fingers crossed!) come this time next month the world will look a great deal more normal.

This month in the Bar Hill News we have an update from our Councillors in relation to the new equine crossing on Saxon Way, an update from the Cricket Club on their latest matches, the third in our series of walks, an update from Neighbourhood Watch, as well as some fantastic articles from Liz Dam.
Next month we can expect an update on the new charity (Bar Hill Community Association), there are a few more i’s to dot and t’s to cross but we are very close to submitting the application now. Fingers, once again, crossed!

I’m also hoping, with the number of scheduled events coming up, to return either the back page or inside page to a calendar of events for August.

Is there anything else you like (or don’t like)? Anything you’d like to see us write an article on as part of our community focus? Please email bhneditor@yahoo.com to let us know!

PS. The “Protect Your Pooch” poster (from Neighbourhood Watch) is available as a download if you’d like to print it yourself and put it up - https://bit.ly/3gJTtqG."

June 2021

A bumper edition this month! Lots of clubs are re-opening now some of the more stringent COVID restrictions are coming to an end. I have attempted to include as many messages as I can; if your club is re-opening please let me know so I can include the details in the July issue.

The Parish Councils consultation (looking for projects to spend £18,000 on from the A14 upgrade project) is clearly the biggest news of the month and I’d like to encourage everyone in the village to respond (see the back page).

The meeting to discuss creating a new charity in the village will have taken place regrettably just after this goes to print - hopefully, there will be news next month!

Our litter picking day is scheduled for July 10th, it had to be moved back as there wasn’t enough time to get everything ready. See you then!

The archive of our oldest issues has been updated. If you’d like to see the very first issue of the Bar Hill News (from way back in December 1967). You can check this out yourself here; https://archive.org/details/bar-hill-news-196712-dec-1967-issue-1

Bar Hill News - Apr 1993 (Issue 287)

Here's the April 1993 issue of the Bar Hill News (Issue 287). This issue includes such topics as;

- Litter Busting Day,
- The adoption of Viking Way (by the County Council),
- Bar Hill PTA Fun Run, and
- A stray black cat in Foxhollow was successfully reunited with its owners

As well as the usual updates from the Cricket Club, Happy Hours, Tennis Club, and the South Cambridgeshire Conservative Association.

This issue included this poem (on the subject of the litter picking day);

"And did those feet in recent times
Walk around Bar Hill's village green
To scent the perfume of the limes
Then tread in piles where dogs have been?
You'll find newspapers by the score
Dumped in the hedge, not through your door.
Let's tidy up and make it grand
In Bar Hill's green and pleasant land.

Bring me my sack, my pointed cane,
Springtime has come around again.
We pick up junk, tin cans and glass,
That litters paths, hedgerows and grass.
We ask, good people, do be kind,
No more your rubbish leave behind.
On Picking Day give us a hand
In Bar Hill's green and pleasant land!"
